One of the main things people see during buying phones is companies software updates. Although software support or update policies vary by brand and most brands will generally tell you how long they will support updates.
But in the case of Apple, they don’t usually reveal how many software updates an iPhone will get. Although they are known for software updates.
But due to a new regulation in the UK, Apple finally revealed it for iPhone 15 and it is less than Google and Samsung.
How many years of software support iPhone 15 Pro offer?
As per Mishaal Rahman at Android Authority, Apple recently uploaded a new document to its website in compliance with the UK’s Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI). In the document, Apple revealed that they will provide security updates for a minimum of five years for the latest iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Google and Samsung guarantee seven generations of Android updates for the Pixel 8 and Galaxy S24 series. This is two years more than Apple.
UK’s Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) regulation comes into effect on April 29, 2024. This regulation obliges companies that manufacture, import, or distribute internet-enabled products in the UK to comply with certain security requirements.
A security update is defined by the PSTI as a “software update that protects or enhances the security of a product, including a software update that addresses security issues which have been discovered by or reported to the manufacturer.”

The “defined support period” is a “minimum of five years from the first supply date.” The “first supply date” is shown as September 22, 2023.
As Apple told the UK government that the iPhone 15 will get security updates for five years from the date of launch i.e. it will get security updates till September 22, 2028.
